Outdoor projects: calculate the materials you need

A deck, gravel path, decorative stone border or concrete slab: find the right tool to plan your purchases.

Choose your project, enter your measurements and work out the bags, rolls, boards or delivery you need. The tools are free. Practical guides help you plan each stage, from ground preparation to the finished surface.

Calculators for outdoor projects

Ground preparation

Plan the excavation and layers before the finish. Estimate soil to remove and geotextile rolls using product dimensions and overlaps.

Gravel & decorative stone

Estimate volume, weight and packs for a path, decorative border or terrace surround. Depth and material density matter as much as the area.

Concrete & slabs

Calculate a slab or base volume, then choose delivered concrete, premixed bags or site mixing. Enter the thickness specified for your work: the tool does not design the structure.

Outdoor paving & tiles

Plan paving blocks or tiles using the area and product size. Choose a product and installation system suitable for outdoors; a quantity estimate cannot make that decision for you.

Garden & boundaries

Plan lawn seed, plants, mulch, soil, watering or fencing. Use the tool matching the job and keep different garden layers separate.

Areas & volumes

Check an area, perimeter or geometric volume before choosing materials. These measurement tools complement the project configurators.

Guides to help plan your outdoor work

A decorative stone border around your terrace?

Found an idea you like? Measure the strip, enter the planned depth and choose the material. The Gravel & pebbles tool converts volume into weight, then into bags or bulk bags using your figures. Add an appropriate waste allowance without counting it twice.

Calculate materials before you start

A plan or photo shows a possible finish, not the quantity to order. Always start with the actual measurements of your space.

  1. Measure the area with the geometry tool or reuse an area saved in your project.
  2. For a layer of material, multiply area by depth in metres to get volume.
  3. Allow for waste according to the product and site conditions. An example allowance is not a universal rule.
  4. Convert the result to bags, rolls, boards, tiles or a delivery. Check product yield, density and the manufacturer’s instructions.

Results help you plan purchases. They do not approve a structure, drainage design or product for outdoor use. Check the manufacturer’s instructions and your site conditions.

Several stages in the same project?

Save your project to reuse its measurements in later calculations. Decking, excavation, geotextile, gravel and concrete can share the same area.
